Since his teens, Michael's music has always been based on his experiences, learning about life and the way things are, and then expressing these experiences through music. Returning home from overseas at the end of 1996, he continued working on his material, and in 1999, he formed Dolores back on the north coast of NSW. This three-piece band became the vehicle for his songwriting, which ranged from lush melancholy ballads to high-energy, edgy rock music. Dolores, supporting national touring acts as they came though the area, have also headlined their own shows, and contributed performances to local charities, and youth organisations. In their association with Ripcurl, a live recording of his track "Heal" was featured on the Ripcurls "the sinking Island" surf documentary --screened nationally--and the Search Sessions video, both here and in Brazil. Michael has been involved with instigating Rock initiatives in the North coast region; with the Music Mentorship programme GTS in his local area. Now back in his Singer/songwriter guise, he looks forward to forming his new band, while still enjoying the intimacy of playing with just voice and guitar. His live set intense and percussive, the use of sparse hypnotic melodies lay the foundations for reflective and austere lyrics. He fuses his eclectic influences, blends of rock/funk/blues and roots music, to create his unique style and contemporary sound. The acoustic songs and sounds are different to his rock material. More roots and Celtic themes run through the songs, but the contemporary edge remains. He has experimented with violin, percussion and didgeridoo as accompaniments, constantly trying new ideas and arrangements, and pushing his own musical boundaries. Working under the theory of a great song stands alone. With just voice and guitar he is striving to increase, refine and expand his playing ability. In the music section of this site you can download samples of demo songs and get an idea of what Michael is all about. So enjoy the music, and enjoy the site! |
